The latest stable version is from 2023, and the latest beta is from September 2024...
The support and updates still go on in some fashion.
It does, at times, look like they are having issues. It's hard to find any newsreader that really keep updating on a regular basis. Most, if not all, the others have abandoned them.
Unfortunately you have to know to check here on the forum there was just another RC (beta) released [beginning of June 2025] (
https://forums.newsbin.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=48325)
It's in the Beta Support Forum.
I think many have cut back on using any newsreaders because the size of the Usenet feed and amount of posts in groups have become next to impossible to download headers in the large groups, posts can go back as far as 6000+ days now.
Most I guess are maybe like me and use the search feature of Newsbin, or they find nzb's to download. Even when you can get headers from the popular groups, they are obfuscated and just look like numbers and letters or even spam. The newsbin search seems to find readable posts, so it does work. I don't know if the search gets just from the non-obfuscated groups, or they go through the process to deobfuscate so they become readable.
And the RC (beta's) are few and far between, although I think over all this time of them working on the program most issues have been resolved.
