Quade has hooked up some more features in Beta 6 as well as made performance and reliability improvements.

Summary:

  • Hooked up Servers tab (due to popular demand)
  • Hooked up retries for failed downloads
  • Fixed Single Tab Mode for post lists
  • Improved AutoPAR reliability
More changes and improvements are listed on the Newsbin Beta Page and in the text release notes that are available to you after the installer completes the upgrade.

The wiki buglist reflects current known issues and the list of fixed issues. This does not include inter-release issues that are found and addressed on the IRC channel.

The download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page

thx for bringing back the server tab

what´s still missing is the amount of downloads per server as we had it in V 5.59
should be important for users who are on a DL budget

I can't get the layout to stay as I want it.
I rearrange the tabs, choose docked for the group list, and search panes.
Close and reopen and it is back to "normal" , tried a Save but save issue.

Maybe an issue under wine but I doubt it.

This information is stored in a file called "Workspace.xml" in the data folder. Might delete it and see if it gets re-created.

Having some problems creating folders for MP3s. I downloaded a half-dozen albums from different artists, but all the sub-folders had the exact same album title, even though they were correctly titled in the ID field. It's like it saved the first album title, and then that field never got overwritten by the next batch.

On a different note, I can't figure out how to get GoGs opened up in tabs as a default. I usually double-click to download the latest headers and open up the file list; it always opens a new window for each GoG, instead of one window with tabs. I can create tabs by dragging one on top of another, but would like to have it as the default. I do have the "Multi-Tab" switch checked off. This has been a problem for a while, not just B6. I assume it's something that I'm doing wrong, just not sure what it is.

Running Windows 7, local drive, plenty of RAM and space.

I'll check out the pathing thing. If should be "file at a time"

I'm not really following this. If I double-click a GOG, I get a new tab that fills in AND a new header download is added to the download list. You might want to delete the Workspace.xml too.

I don't know what all goes in there or what it means. It's a library I'm using that generates that from the layout of the tabs and controls. If deleting the Workspace doesn't help then, I'm going to chalk this up to "Linux weirdness". I'll ask Dthor if he see's this. I believe he told me it worked better under linux than the early B6's did.

I tried deleting workspace.xml, but it made no difference. Here's a screengrab; this is what happens when I double-click on three GoGs, one after another.

Here is what I would like it to look like (which I can do by dragging the windows on top of one another):

Bring the search tab back and it'll work like it's supposed to. The posts lists have nothing to anchor too. They normally anchor to the search tab. That's why it's not like the other tabs.

aha! Yeah, I hid the search tab because I don't use it very often, if ever. Guess I'll have to live with it sitting there for no reason, at least until something changes...

Thanks for the help though, at least I know why!

Just a thought but would it be possible to switch the anchor to the groups tab? Seems like that would be the best one to have as an always on default instead of the
Search tab, I don't use it often either, just my 2 cents......

Another wierdie I am having with this build.
If you Right click on a Gog and choose view posts is loads fine but then displays the docking menu (Float etc) Everytime :!:

I can't reproduce, but it sounds like you have something set to float and it's redrawing it on top after an operation. Try docking it.

Unless I misunderstand what you mean by docking menu. Hmm, perhaps try undocking then redocking. I've found I've been able to get it into undesired states when first setting up the way I want it. You can also reinstall over top and choose to reset the gui and start again. That'd probably be what I'd do if it was being annoying and not trivially getting fixed.

I thought about this too.

1 - NZB's are more popular than headers so, the group tab seemed more optional.

2 - Search always works so, even if you're not a subscriber, you can see if something you're looking for has been posted. You just can't downloaded it from search without a sub.

So, I'm not sure there's a right answer to it. It was just a judgement call.

Another point is that if one works in the traditional "3 pane" mode then it is likely that the groups tab is in a different pane to where you want the search posts tabs to appear.

The obvious solution would be to allow the user to specify in some way which tab should be used as the anchor. However I realise this is likely to be non-trivial to implement.

Ok tried that same fault. (Re-install choose reset GUI, move bits around, close NB,open NB)

Example of after View posts

After close re-open

What exactly should docking do? I assumed it would lock it inplace but it doesn't seem to.

What does "[10:44:20] ERROR InterSocket - Error: Connection Failed, Host: 193.202.122.161 Error Code: 10061:1205
" mean? Where can i find what different error codes mean?

They are in the Newsbin User Guide in the troubleshooting section (http://wiki.newsbin.com/index.php/V600- ... rror_Codes).

That particular error code means connection refused. Often happens of a firewall is blocking Newsbin.

im not sure if its a bug or something.. ive just downloaded a large(6+Gb) file and whe NB started to unrar it there was no unrar process shown at all. At first i even thought that something went wrong but everything got unrared fine.

Did it disappear from the Download list while it was unraring? There should be a green progress bar indicating unrar in the Current Progress column of the download list.

Not sure what you mean? Why sould there be an unrar process? The unrar will just be running as a thread within Newsbin. As Dexter mentioned, this is indicated within Newsbin by the Progress bar being green.

*sigh* ive been playing around with nb downloading to a rather slow old disk, just testing

usually unrar process is indicated by a green progress bar. Ive just put 2 2+Gb files. The first one started unraring tnen green bar stopped progressing almost at the beginning(trashing got really hard), then after a minute or something the first item disappeared from the list completely unrared with a green bar stopped almost at the very start

Thats the point .Progress bar itself didnt get "progressed" as if it got hung though unraring process took place as usual

possible that your system couldnt keep up with the repaint

Re: Version 6 Beta 6 Available...

define system.

core 2 duo 3Ghz, 3.5Gb RAM, 8800GTS 640mb, XP sp3. CPU wastn even loaded to 50% while unraring, ~2Gb free memory
I could easily watch some HD 1080p movie while Nb was doing the job

and i dont suppose disk has anyhting to do with repainting since it still got unrar going on though at a slower rate

Nope , its the old one 120Gb. So tell me what disk speed where downloaded files are unrared has to do with repainting graphic interface.

Unrar goes on? Yes. Progress bar doesnt? Yes.

Where is logic here?

PS Give us percentages. Pure, simple, professionally. As an option ..
Enough with all these colors, really, As if we are in a kindergarden.. red green blue..agu agu agu

I've noticed lately after the green progress bar is done the bar turns clear like nothing is downloaded. The status numbers fool you too. Apparently after the unrar NewsBin deletes the files and the bar looks like nothing has been downloaded. The bar disappears after the files are deleted.

The settings are MEANT to be saved.

One thing it might be worth trying is opening up a Post kist and getting it set the way you want and then simply exiting from Newsbin. See if the settings are now OK on Newsbin restart. I have seen some messages suggesting that this might work.
