While it isn't officially supported, we have many users who successfully run NewsBin under Linux with a Windows emulator (Wine is the most popular). This forum exists for you Linux guys to share your experience getting NewsBin running on Linux as well as report any strangeness that we may or may not be able to fix. DThor is the resident expert.

Depends on what you're measuring. V6 does some work up front with spools to make later usage much faster. If you try to do a lot while spools are being processed...
Are you talking gui? I haven't really noticed any speed hits, but I'll admit I don't go back and forth. Personally, I just go with the newer features and the one that gets updates, so it's sort of moot for me, but certainly don't feel crippled in any way with 6. Feels snappy.

ive just noticed loading large groups that it's pretty painful to scroll. don't remember having that issue on 5? most everything else seems about the same. i might go back to 5 and compare some things.

If it's still importing into the DB it's going to be slow until the import finishes. You can see it's importing down in the cache line "(NN)". A number in parens indicated how many blocks of records remain to be imported. If there's no number, it's not importing.

Version 6 is better for me. Loads faster (very much faster) with long download lists, and it have a nice grouping feature, which makes the dowload list much nicier and clean.

that could be the issue. i didnt notice that. ill give it a little more wait time and see if that helps the scrolling.

Disk activity light will be the clue. When inserting, it's going pretty much straight out.

Since this is a linux. Try to check the logs here and see what it says.
tail -f /var/log/messages
tcpdump
You're never a loser until you quit trying.
