Version 6.81 Beta 4 Available...

Postby dexter » Sat Jul 14, 2018 4:35 pm

Couple of fixes and an attempt to address an issue where NAS devices sometimes report 0 disk space erroneously.

Summary:

  • Re-introduced in place edit for filter entries on filter add dialog. It works but the edit is in the first column.
  • Made changes to ignore if Windows returns 0 space. Most of the times it is wrong. Newsbin should have detected and paused downloads/unrars well before this happens. Hopefully will help people with NAS devices that are reporting available disk wrong.
  • Now takes any de-obfuscated part of the subject and uses it to rename obfuscated MKV's from Search results. Already does this for NZBs.
  • Removed subject checking during download since there are new obfuscated subjects that have no file counters.
The full change history and the download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

If you find any issues, please reply to this thread or use our Technical Support Contact Form.

At a first test it seems that everything works fine.
Checked headers do appear in "Downloading Files", download starts and doesn't stop untill the end.
Some sporadic "Update Pending [nr]", which quickly disappears.
Tested with (few and many) small and big files.
I no longer have the problems appeared since version 680RC5.
I can update at last: thanks guys!

Header downloads

Postby danrobin » Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:19 pm

I'm having trouble d/ling headers. I just added another server on and it was working ok. But now in the logging status i get "ERROR Download list Insert Failed:Download Headers: Newshosting as well as Astraweb which I had just added to the server List. I also get a message saying the db for each group could be corrupt. This happening on each group i have. It was ok with beta 3 and then started acting up so i tried the upgrade to beta 4 with no luck. Have I maybe corrupted the db file in each group folder i have ? So can I delete each storage.db of each group to start over or the groups.db3?

Typically that means the same header download is already in the download list.

Updated to Beta 4 and having trouble with Watch folder. It works after a restart, but then when I try it later I get an error trying to "add to download list". If I exit and restart and put the exact same NZB file back in the watch list it works.

I found a bug (or more likely just default extracting behavior) with AutoPar preallocating the file space when extracting...If there isn't enough room left on the drive to preallocate the file, it doesn't (preallocate it) and just extracts normally until it runs out of room and newsbin yells about being low on space. It should stop/prevent extract from starting instead.

Thanks

That's how it works now. It'll unrar up to the point you hit the "free space limit" (which defaults to 1G), then it'll stall till you clear space. People bitched about it requiring 2 times the unrar space before it even started to unrar.

Right, well it didn't make a lot of sense (seeing as I was the one who "bitched"). If newsbin can pause the extraction gracefully why did it ever require 2x free space?

Anyway, doesn't matter. My point is requing 2x space was greedy of Newsbin, all it ever needed (after any repairs) was 1x free space to extract the file. 2x free space was an attempt to prevent Newsbin from running out of space while extracting due to other downloads (or drive usage) occurring simultaneously, which pre-allocating the extraction solved.

But you could still prevent the extraction from starting if it doesn't have 1x free space (aka enough to pre-allocate the file) to keep Newsbin from yelling and having to handle pausing the process. That part of your original goal made sense, it was the 2x greediness that I took issue with.

On the subject of the low space warning, it would be nice if there was a way of dismissing it. Currently the warning can't be closed until space is cleared. It locks you out of the program and prevents minimizing of Newsbin, making it more difficult to navigate around the computer .

Thanks

Now that the low space logs to the logging tab and pops the error window (which can be dismissed), I'm thinking about removing the low disk space popups altogether. It never worked as well as I'd liked and the new "pause everything when you run out of space" works just fine. I might have to leave it for the data folder.

Why does Newsbin truncate my file names at 78 characters? I've got 260 characters in windows and you decide that 78 is long enough? I thought it was the NZB provider, but this morning after having enough of reconstructing the file names, I've discovered it's Newsbin. This didn't happen until recently, maybe after I started using v6, but in v5 I definitely didn't have this problem. I'm not sure if you introduced this problem in 6.8 or not, but it has to be fixed.

Not enough information to know what you're saying. Downloads use UNC pathing so, the length of the filename is virtually unlimited.

When I look at the Directory name that is derived from the NZB, it is limited to 78 (or 80, I may have miscounted the first time) characters. Then when Newsbin is finished, Using Bulk Rename Ultility, I take the directory name to rename the obfuscated files and the resulting file name only has 78 characters. I was mistaken in saying that Newsbin directly renames them to 78 characters in my case, but I guess it would If I used the renaming rules.

I don't know how much more you need. NZB name is longer than 80 characters. Newsbin truncates directory name that is named for NZB to 80 characters. It's that simple. Your $(NZBFILE) setting truncates to 80 characters.

C:\Newsbin\Download\$(NZBFILE)\

Ok. Well, that's how it works then. If you're generating these by hand, which I guess you are, don't make the filename that long.

I'm not generating these by hand, I'm restoring them to the original file name by hand after Newsbin screws them up. DogNZB generates them from the official Scene names. SickRage even has the template to name them, but without the episode title. This keeps usually keeps them shorter than 80 characters, but not if the group chose to use the episode title.

Season %0S/%S.N.S%0SE%0E.%Q.N-%RG

The question is why did you shorten the allowed directory names and is there an ini setting that will allow me to restore the full length?

EDIT: I found that 6.73 doesn't truncate the directory names, so you made this change in 6.8 for some reason, maybe because the screen update delay was too long.

EDIT2: And yet you claim in 6.8, "Long Filename Support (which broke XP compatibility)"

Hi,

I just tried to create an NZB in 6.81B4 from the results of an internet search, which appeared to be created succesfully.

I then tried to load this NZB into NB 6.81B4 using the 'Load NZB' button and it failed to load, issuing a "Disposition: 3" in the debug log.

I tried a few others from different searches, same thing.

I reloaded NB 6.81B3 and the NZBs loaded without problem.

regards
Stavros.

I generated an NZB from about 8 gigs worth of files. Then use "Load NZB". A new window popped open and the NZB Files showed up in this window.

Did a window open for you?

I was able to successfully load a 41MB one I created from my download list in 6.81B4. It even kept subjects longer than 80 characters, so why doesn't it work with the download path?

I was replying to this one. Still thinking about oddball 80 character filenames.

Hi Quade,

I'm not sure, but I think that a window did open, named for the NZB, but it was empty. I'm away from the NB machine at the moment and can't replicate the test to be sure.

Repost from the B3 thread. (Got no answer.)
Calahan wrote:I loved the $(RAWSUBJECT) mode.

But instead of correcting the behavior that dashes were left at the beginning and the end of the subject, where they made no sense, a change was made to remove all dashes.
Could you PLEASE restore the old behavior or only correct the problem cases, instead of removing all dashes?

Now I get many subjects where all dashes were deleted and I have to guess what the subject line was.
If a subject was posted like "aab-bcc-c" you now get a folder "aabbcc" but you don't know if it was "aa-bb-cc" or anything else...
Very often I have to search for the posting to correct the folder names.
That is much more time consuming than before.

I think it should be possible to delete all spaces, dashes and all other characters from the beginning of the string as long there is no numerical or alphabetical character.
As soon as there is a numerical or alphabetical character, you stop deleting characters from the beginning.
The same should work from the end.
You can delete all unwanted characters from the right side of the string until there is a numerical or alphabetical character. Then you stop deleting characters.
This should result in readable and perfect subject folders.

PLEASE reconsider your change.
Can I have the dashes back for $(RAWSUBJECT) please?
It's easier to remove too much dashes than to guess where they were.

Hi...

Just upgraded from 6.6.0.13 to 6.8.0.0.

I see that in 6.8.0.0 there is some sort of cleaning the subject (e.g. removing numbers), when choosing the menu "Download to Folder named for Subject".

I found that feature in 6.6.0.13 very useful. Why was this behavior changed, and any chances of getting this back in 6.8.1.0 ?

Best of regards...

Been getting some strange behaviour in b4, under wine it will sometimes just halt processing - I have autodownload headers on startup and it doesn't, opening the GOG's shows nothing and doesn't start a header download either. Closing shows a crash dump. Restarting works fine. Happened several times now.

Just had Newsbin pause because my HDD ran low on space due to downloading. Autopar was also simultaneously extracting my previous download. It appears Newsbin pauses everything because the extraction paused as well. This seems unnecessary since Newsbin now pre-allocates the extracted file, so it's not affected by the current low disk space error. In fact, if Newsbin continued extracting it (during the low disk space pause) and then Autopar deleted those rar files, I would have the space to finish downloading the file.

Also just gonna ask again, please add a button to dismiss that low disk space error.

Thanks

The disk space stuff is "how it work". If you drop below free disk space threshold everything stops. I don't know what else is using disk space at the same time so this is the safest way to handle it. The free space popup is probably going to go away completely. It's just too late to do it in 6.81 which is just about to be released. It's not pre-allocating the whole unrar and it's not preventing the unrar from starting if you don't have enough free space. That all went away. It's been replaced with "if you run low on space everything stops".

On the other hand, if you unrar to a different disk than you download too, the unrar can continue as long as there's space and the download can continue even of the unrar drive runs low.
