Been getting this error for the last week or so does not matter which server I am trying to connect too.
SSL is on port 563 as default.
Had been working perfectly for years and maxing out by 200Mb connection.

In the search tab try to search for something with the search setting set for "Internet". If that fails, it suggests something is blocking Newsbin off the internet. Normally it's something like your security software.

What version are you using?

If Search works, it could be an issue with your news server. What server are you using? Maybe others with the same server can report if they are having issues.

Other possibility is that your security software decided to start messing with port 563. If your news server supports alternate ports, you could try port 443 or turn SSL off and see if you can get a connection.

Yeah. I might disable "XFEATURES" in the server advanced options too.

Its Newsgroupdirect US and European servers. I changed one of the servers to Port 81 and on a test download, no issues at all.

If the problem returns, I will try the other suggestions.

The fact that it works on an alternate port does indicate a software conflict with your security software. If it is working like this, there is no need to change. If it starts happening again, give Quade's suggestion a try, disable XFeatures. That's usually what trips up security software these days because they are not expecting binary content on Usenet. The setting is under Options -> Servers -> Really Advanced
